EDUCATION
- Operates an annual educational program at SYVM, in which a team of providers travels to Saragur for 1-2 weeks of teaching and clinical mentorship.
- The curriculum is composed of an annual training in pediatric and neonatal resuscitation as well as specialty series that is decided upon by providers at SYVM.
- Teaching is now being expanded to involve the Departments of Pediatrics at Mysore Medical College and JSS Medical College
- This IPOP program is supported in large part by a grant from the Marmor Foundation.
- Supported US nurse Jen Parsons for month long trip to build capacity for improving newborn care in Saragur (2006)
RESEARCH
- Currently considering supporting several small scale investigative proposals by our partners at SVYM to assess growth and nutritional issues, neonatal issues, and infectious disease issues affecting local pediatric population
- Supporting ongoing development of rural emergency medical response system to reach remotest populations in tribal areas
MATERIALS
- Ongoing supply of disposable medical equipment for local use
- Ongoing financial support for several big-ticket items (defibrillator, ultrasound, pulse-oximeters, etc.) to support diagnostic capacity of their hospital.
