In addition to IPOP's formal programs, we support our partners' needs on many levels. Past accomplishments include:
- Linked Heal Africa with Global Strategies for HIV Prevention to launch a regional HIV prevention of mother-to-child-transmission program and a pediatric HIV treatment clinic.
- Supported the travel and fees for the physician director of Heal Africa pediatric HIV clinic, to attend a regional conference on HIV in Nairobi, Kenya.
- Supported the development of a rural emergency medical response system to reach remote populations in tribal areas in Saragur.
- Supported a US-based nurse to perform a nutritional needs assessment of HIV-infected children in Goma. The data was also used by a coalition of groups in Goma to apply to UNICEF for expansion of their nutrition programs.
- Helped arrange for a month of advanced obstetric training for a Heal Africa obstetrician at UCSF.
- Identified and helped secure a fellowship for advanced HIV training at UCSF for former Heal Africa medical director and pioneer in local HIV care.
- Supplied pediatric and neonatal equipment (bag and masks, pulse oximeters, defibrillators, practice mannequins, shunt devices, disposable syringes, etc.)
- Provided textbooks and medical software to local partners.
- Provided emergency funding to cover housing and food for children displaced by rise in local violence in 2008.
